A Few Thoughts on Some Recent Items

A few words to keep the page moving this week...

I received the Asajj / Anakin Microseries set. I'm in the early photography process (packaged shots only, so far), but I should have the review up on Monday. Meanwhile, I should be receiving the next two waves of figures from Amazon next week, so that's plenty of material to keep me going for a little while.

In addition to the Tartakovsky set, I also acquired the 6" 501st AT-RT. As most of you know, I have a focus on 501st stuff, so this is my latest acquisition to that subset of my collection. Someday, I'll post pictures of it, although I may have posted the occasional shot over the years. In any case, I've got the Hot Toys version and now the TBS version. Waiting on a TVC release, but I assume that's inevitable, since we got the Imperial Remnant sculpt, making it just a simple repaint. I'm happy with this. It's got a tremendous amount of articulation, and poses great.

Wanted to mention that I did finally purchase the INT-4 after holding off for a bit. In the end, I was at peace with the price, since I assumed this was really what it was supposed to be in the first place. Not that I'm happy with it, but I didn't experience the same rage that so many others felt. I certainly get it, it just didn't make me that mad. I only got one, which is probably the right quantity, regardless of the price. Even at the incorrectly advertised price, I doubt I was going to army build these things.

The same can't be said for the TVC Kenner Color X-Wing. I find this to be an abomination. While I don't like the cartoony appearance of Asajj in the aforementioned 2-pack, that wasn't going to stop me from purchasing the set. The X-Wing, on the other hand - well, that's where I draw the line. I think this is a dumb item, and has no business in TVC. Frankly, I was never interested in the other Kenner-colored figures, like Boba Fett and the Cantina Creatures, but I got them anyway. But there ain't no way I'm paying $130 for an X-Wing that's painted like we're back in 1978. I can buy an actual Kenner X-Wing on eBay, if I wanted that. This is just a waste of time, and doesn't belong in TVC. There should be no "blending" of Retro and TVC. Yes, Hasbro has delivered the occasional Kenner homage in TVC in the past - and I thought all of those were dumb, too. I would go so far as to even use the "R" word here: Ridiculous! (Except I wasn't thinking "ridiculous.")

So I've passed (for now) on the X-Shming. For the sake of attempting to keep up appearances in our galleries/reviews, I might consider picking it up on deep discount, but I don't even think I could pull the trigger unless it was half price or something like that.

I don't like being forced to draw lines in the sand on my 3.75 "completist" collecting, but here's a rare example of exactly that. I'm not a buyer. And if someone such as myself passes on it (I'll buy almost everything), I think it probably doesn't bode well for this thing. In the same week, I've bought a TBS thing, while passing on a TVC thing. What's happening here? Boooo, Hasbro. Booooo!
